Since Monday, I am now so here in Sihanoukville, Cambodia. The decision to emigrate to Cambodia, I have taken approximately one years ago. It was one of those evenings, when I get bored sitting at the computer and talking with a good friend in the chat. He was still living with his family in Thailand and spoke of wanting to emigrate to Cambodia. At this point, I toyed with the Dominican Republic (Dominican Republic), but I was there, the crime rate is too high. I asked my friend in any case, whether he would be serious - after which he - in jest as he later asserted - replied that I should simply come and watch me. Two minutes later it was clear to me: I will travel to Cambodia! Only the timing of my departure was unclear.

From then on, I have books on the country concerned, the Internet and I read extensively about the country and informed people (at this point I would like to thank the operator of the Cambodian Legal Forum, as this forum has helped me a lot!). One of the websites visited regularly by me, of course, included the site of Angkor real estate, and finally I had to live somewhere too. That I will in the end, the broker must not claim that I owe the said friend who has emigrated to Cambodia, because by chance he discovered here a suitable house for me.

The travel arrangements were in addition to the usual formalities (logoff, etc. Versicherungskram of course) and various vaccinations (including against Japanese encephalitis, cholera, rabies, hepatitis A and B, typhoid), and the application for an international driving license (it should probably go without, ..). Since I did not want to wait in Phnom Penh to the issuance of my visa, I have let myself previously a business issue visa at the Cambodian Embassy in Berlin. The fun was somewhat expensive (40 euros), but I had my visa on arrival in the bag and no stress with any formalities.

And on Monday it was ready: My girlfriend (she is here about 3 weeks) I go on holiday and had landed in Phnom Penh! Problems with the jet lag I had actually had any. I have since then my own trick - two days before departure, the night going through (easy if you just go somewhere extended one drink), to sleep at night who are going through last night again and sleep on the plane now ... how to get sleep and then recovered at the destination to ;)

In Phnom Penh, I then erstmal placed directly into a cafe at the airport and taken plenty of coffee and water to me before I took care to take a taxi to Sihanoukville. I did not want to wait for the bus, but was curious about my new home ...

Luckily I had my friend previously advised of the normal taxi prices! He implored me to pay in any case more than $ 50. The first drivers were all $ 120 for the trip, well, eventually I found someone who had made it for $ 80. So, target name (with my friend here, I have agreed that we meet at a hotel), invite suitcase, get in, run 200 meters to hauptstraße stops, the driver of the car. What are we waiting for? Aha, he would take me to a hotel ... "No, I do not need a hotel, I have a house" - "You do want to be a hotel" - "No, because I meet with my friend and then we go to my House "... Ok, after 10 attempts, had understood the driver (or do not understand until then, who knows this already) too closely.

Continued on but it is still not. We would have to wait for his friend. The taxi driver and would also live in Sihanoukville. He would take me for $ 80. Well, I smiled at the driver nice and waited ... I felt like yelling at him and asked me if he "wanted to fuck." This should be in Asia do not. Who cries, his face has lost waiting even longer ...

Eventually came the other driver and the journey towards the new home went. A real "culture shock" has been spared me. As we drove through the villages, I could not help but feel that here there are some great resemblance to Kosovo before about 9 years ...

After about four hours driving time (including a break after the halfway point in a cafe), we have arrived safely in Sihanoukville. My friend was waiting for me before the said hotel - from there he drove to my house, we have followed in the taxi.

The rest went smoothly. A few minutes after our arrival, was added to my landlord (he does not speak english, so it has always) an interpreter there, I obtained my house (4 rooms, kitchen - about 120 square meters of living space for approximately $ 300 per month) and the life could begin ...
